Nothing impacts a person quite like trauma.

Sometimes, trauma happens in one major event - near death experiences, abuse, or violence. You might have gone through something horrific or nightmarish and were left with painful memories of the past.

Sometimes, trauma happens more than once.  You may have lived with an abuser or worked in a job that exposed you to traumatic events over and over again.  Each experience left you with another emotional scar, another heartache to carry.

And sometimes, trauma happens slowly over time through toxic relationships, neglect, and mistreatment.  This creates a sandpaper effect, one that leaves you feeling raw and hypersensitive to the world around you.

No matter how trauma has entered your life, there is hope.

As Dr. Peter Levine writes, “Trauma is a fact of life.  It does not however have to be a life sentence.”

You deserve a chance to heal and recover, and I want to help you get there.

Healing from Trauma

My name is Jack Rubin, and I help people experiencing trauma to regain their sense of safety, reestablish control, and reclaim themselves.

Trauma creates a chain reaction in the nervous system, one that is too much, too fast, or too soon for it to handle.  This electrochemical overload teaches the body to overreact in ways that try to maintain survival, which is where we begin to see symptoms or challenges such as flashbacks, triggering, intense anxiety, nightmares, and hypervigilance.  Sometimes, after the trauma has ended, the body goes back to normal.  But often, the body gets “stuck” in survival mode.

And that’s where therapy comes in.

How can therapy help?

My therapy is designed to help you learn to trust and find safety with your mind and body again so that you can get unstuck and heal.

I utilize techniques from Somatic Experiencing®, Internal Family Systems, and Mindful Self-Compassion, all evidence-based therapies designed to help people understand and heal from traumatic experiences.  At your own pace, we will work to help you discover resilience, process the hurt, and reconnect with yourself, as your nervous system learns to find balance again.

As we work to heal the wounds caused by trauma, you can also expect to learn new things about your inner self, make discoveries about your life, and more fully live the life you want in the present moment.

Healing from trauma is a journey, and I am here to take it with you.

How do I get started?
